Create a Pivot (Hy11)

A pivot section can be used to create cross-tabular style reports in which you can analyze data. Data facts can also be aggregated (combined) in this area.

To create a pivot*:

  1. Open the DirectoryServices.bqy located in the University Wide>Training folder.
  2. Click on Query from the Sections window.
  3. Add the Person Id field onto the Request Line.

  4. Process the report. When prompted, search for Dept Id beginning with U.

  5. On the Results section, select Insert>New Pivot from the main menu.

  6. In the new Pivot section, the Data Layout is now comprised of three different areas: Row Labels, Column Labels and Facts.

  7. From the available fields in the Elements window, drag the Dept Ld field into the Row Labels area and drag the Person Id field into the Facts area.

  8. Single-click on any Person Id field in the workspace to select that entire column. From the main menu, select Pivot>Data Function>Count.

  9. The Person Id field now reflects a count for each department.
