Mobile Messaging at ASU

Mobile Messaging is the method of bringing your desktop Outlook items to your handheld device; usually a Smartphone, a Blackberry, a Palm device or a Windows based PDA. Today's Mobile Messaging allows you to wirelessly synchronize your handheld device with your Inbox, Contacts, and Calendar items without the need to dial in or initialize any connections.

Like any computer, software applications are available for your Mobile Device. But like Windows software being incapable of working on Mac computers and vice versa, not all software that runs on one Mobile Device will run on another. Check with the manufacturer or vendor to be sure that the device you choose will work with certain software.

For receiving email and synchronizing with specific Outlook Folders, ASU can support the following devices.

  • All Blackberry Devices v4.0 or 2.7 (for Java & C++)
  • Windows Mobile Devices v4.0 & 5.0 with ActiveSync v2.8.1 or later
  • Palm Treo 650 & Higher with Exchange ActiveSync
  • iPhone and iTouch with IMAP

ASU Emergency Text Message System

To enhance preparedness and emergency time, ASU launched an Emergency Text Message Alert System. This optional service is used when a crisis occurs on one of the campuses or surrounding areas and is available for students, faculty and staff. Those who choose to participate in this free service will recieve a text message with important information or directions in the case of an emergency. Currently, only At&T/Cingular customers may recieve these text messages. If the Emergency Text Message System is inaccessible or inconvenient, several other options are available:

  • ASU website - ASU homepage
  • Email - more information
  • Reverse 9-1-1 calls to campus land lines
  • Emergency hotline (480.727.9911 or toll-free 1.877.278.2785)
  • Emergency bulletins to media
  • Electronic billboards
  • Public address systems
