- Outage Notification links help you find information like the Change Management Blog where authorized users can view and provide input on upcoming planned outages, the Provost's calendar of maintenance blackouts when high availability is expected due to critical university processing and deadlines, and the Facilities Maintenance calendar of building and service shutdowns.
- System Status is displayed top-center with a color code and message.
- Red: Ongoing unplanned vital system outage
- Yellow: Unplanned outage of limited scope or Ongoing High-Impact planned change
- Green: Systems functioning normally
- The "below the fold" center block contains System Notices regarding upcoming planned outages for the weekend and/or general advisory announcements.
- In the upper right corner ASU Network Availability displays the current status of inter-campus and Internet connectivity as a green/yellow/red light and a percent available for the past six months. (Note that collection of this particular measure began in June '09. A full six months will not be displayed until December '09 when months will begin 'rolling off' the trailing end.)
- ASU Help Desk telephone call volume, hold time, and average length of call are displayed along the right side of the page.
What is a Vital User System?
High availability is important in any system but when a disruption would negatively impact the daily instructional business of the university, that system is considered a Vital User System and outages will be reported front and center on System Health. This distinction is important in terms of how many people are affected and need to know that the system is unavailable and when it will be restored. The following are considered Vital User Systems:
- Campus (or campuses) Internet Connectivity
- Building, quadrant, or campus-wide Network Connectivity (data and voice)
- My ASU (and the databases it requires to work HRSA, CRM, etc.)
- Blackboard and other learning management systems (e.g. Sakai)
- My Apps (including both the public and secure Citrix environments)
- My Files (end user data storage including AFS and CIFS)
- Email (including Outlook/Exchange, ASU Gmail, and Blackberry service)
- Widely used systems provided by strategic partners (e.g. Google Docs, Sites, etc.)
