Top 5 Most Frequently Asked Questions

1. REGISTERING A CLICKER There are two ways that CPS clickers can be registered. Your instructor will let you know if the class will be powered by Blackboard or CPSOnline. Please check with your instructor before registering your clicker.

NOTE: CPSOnline students will receive a Class Key Code from their Instructor. Clicker serial numbers are not case sensitive. Please make sure that you have entered the number correctly. Serial numbers begin with an “r” followed by a series of 6 letters and/or numbers. Be careful… Numbers such as 8 can look like B. 0 (Zero) and O (Oh) can look alike as well. There are no “O” only Zeros.

2. BLANK SCREEN DURING REGISTRATION A blank screen during the registration process is due to your Internet pop-up blocker. Simply turn off your pop-up blocker, go back one page, and resume the registration process.

3. SERIAL NUMBER IN USE When a serial number comes up as in use, it can mean one of two things:

  • You purchased your clicker used and it is still associated to the student from the previous semester.
  • The serial number was typed incorrectly.

Contact the ASU Clicker Support Team through the Student Support Request Form.

4. CLICKER WILL NOT TURN ON If your clicker will not turn on, it is recommended you try the following:

  • Replace the batteries
  • If changing the batteries does not resolve the problem, you will need to try what is called a hard reset:
  • Remove the batteries
  • Hold down the Power/Join Button for 45 seconds
  • Replace the batteries (we suggest new batteries)
  • Turn on your clicker

If this does not resolve the problem, contact eInstruction at 1-888-333-4988 and ask them for an exchange form. They will email you an exchange form that you can take to the bookstore to get a new clicker.

5. CLICKER WILL NOT JOIN IN CLASS This could be caused by multiple factors:

  • Make sure you registered the clicker and paid the registration fee.
  • Your serial # is typed incorrectly. (Check you CPS account online at eInstruction.com)
  • You might not be on your instructor’s CPS roster. (Check with your instructor)

Where do I buy a clicker?

CPS rf clickers are available for purchase through the ASU bookstore.

How much do clickers cost?

Clickers (new) range between $20.25-$23.00 (prices subject to change) at the ASU bookstore. There may also be a limited number of used units available, the prices will vary depending on availability.

How much does a CPS clicker registration cost?

You will need to pay to register your clicker for use in class. Registration costs are as follows (subject to change):

  • $24.25 for a Lifetime Registration (unlimited semesters) at the ASU Bookstore
  • $39.00 for Lifetime Registration (unlimited semesters) at eInstruction.com. eInstruction registration fees are payable through Blackboard or CPSOnline.
  • If you would prefer to register for only a Single Semester/single course the cost is $13.00. eInstruction registration fees are payable through Blackboard or CPSOnline. There is a $39.00 registration cap for ASU students using the Single Semester option.

I have a coupon/promo code from my instructor and/or book to register my clicker, how does this work?

The coupon or “promo code” is good for a single class registration at a discounted rate. If you will be using your clicker in more than one class, you will be required to pay a single semester registration or “term code” fee to use your clicker in any additional classes. NOTE: The coupon/promo code does not expire, so you can hold on to it and use it at another time.

Does the method of registration make a difference? How do I know which way to register my clicker for class?

Yes. Ask your instructor and check the instructions they provide you. If you have to register through CPSOnline they will provide you with a class key. There is no class key for registration through Blackboard. Most, but not all, instructors at ASU use the Blackboard method.

Other helpful registration tips:

  • Invalid Code or Code Error?  Contact www.einstruction.com or 1-888-333-4988.
  • Don't forget... You must pay before your registration is valid.
  • Register your clicker before your first day of class rather than after... This wil save you time and frustration, plus you will be able to participate on the first day of class!
  • Consult your syllabus and/or instructor for additional registration instructions.

If I am using my CPS clicker in multiple classes do I have to register my CPS clicker for each class?

Yes.

Do I have to pay separately for each class?

No, if you are using CPS in multiple classes for the same semester, then a Lifetime Registration payment or a Single Semester Registration payment is necessary. If you choose the Lifetime Registration, it will cover all classes for any semester in which CPS is used at ASU. A Single Semester Registration will only cover the classes during that semester (i.e. Spring, Fall).

What if one of my classes requires me to register through Blackboard and the other requires registration through CPSOnline?

You’ll have to register your clicker through both methods. Make sure you use the same username and password when going through each method, otherwise you will be asked to pay again.

What if I am having a problem with payment for registration?

Contact eInstruction through their website eI Support or by calling 1.888.333.4988.

What if my clicker is broken?

If you experience any problems with your clicker (if it is defective or malfunctioning) call eInstruction at 1.888.333.4988 and ask them for an exchange form. They will email you an exchange form that you can take to the bookstore to get a new clicker. It is important that you contact them immediately upon noticing a problem. Also, keep your receipt, as this can help the process along. If you purchased your clicker through the ASU Bookstore, you will want to familiarize yourself with their refund policy. You can do this by visiting their website.

How do I know my clicker has joined the class?

When you turn on the clicker and it joins the LCD screen will say “TMA” mode on there.

How do I send in an answer?

Press the button that corresponds with your answer, for example “A,” then press the send button. Watch the screen on your clicker it will indicate when an answer is sent; in some cases the class may be set to auto-send responses and you won't need to push the send button.

How do I change my answer?

Select your new answer for example “B” button then the send button. CPS will only remember the last answer sent while the question is running.

Can I join in while a question is running?

No, make sure you turn on your clicker and have it join before the instructor starts a question.

I have a TurningPoint clicker, will it work with my CPS class?

No, TurningPoint clickers and CPS clickers are not compatible.
