Personal Websites FAQs
Personal websites
ASU offers hosting of a "no frills" personal website on www.public.asu.edu to all Students, Faculty, and Staff.
How do I setup my account?
In order to setup your ASU account with access to personal webspace, all you need to do is add "Personal Webpage Hosting" to your list of ASU computing services using the ASURITE Subscription Web Site. To do this login at http://www.asu.edu/asurite using your ASURITE ID and password, and add the "Personal Webpage Hosting" service to your account. Your URL will be activated within 90 minutes at http://www.public.asu.edu/<yourasuriteid>.
Are there any restrictions to the type of site that I can make?
Most importantly, you must make sure that your site is in compliance with ASU's computing policies. Beyond that there are technology restrictions placed on public personal web space. This service does not provide support for web scripting and programming languages like PHP, Perl, Common Gateway Interface (CGI), J2EE, or .NET technologies.
How much space do I get? How can I get more?
For personal websites, users start with 4 Gigabytes of personal AFS space. The UTO Help Desk processes requests for quota increases. To view your quota, click on "My Files" from the MyASU page. Department webspace is currently provided at the VP unit level. Webmasters at the VP/College level can request quota increases by sending an email to helpdesk@asu.edu.
I want to use Dreamweaver, FrontPage, or some other Web editing software. How do I publish to my space?
Many of these tools support "one-click" website publishing. At ASU, this type of feature is only usable if your editing software supports the SFTP protocol. Check your editor's documentation for the latest information on file upload options.
