What’s New for 2009?

Standard Log in

• Instructors on all campuses should log into instructor workstations through the ASU.EDU (Kerberos Realm) domain, which is the default setting on these systems.
• It may be necessary to synchronize your password to gain access to all application available through the new common image.

Enhanced Security on Instructor Workstations

Deep Freeze is now installed on all instructor workstations to provide enhanced security, maximized performance and increased reliability of configuration for everyone who shares these systems.

• The workstation will reset to the common image after a daily refresh and/or each manual restart. Short-term storage of data should be facilitated through use of the T-drive.
• If you require permanent installation of additional software on an instructor workstation or other customization please contact University Common Computing for further assistance.

Online Applications

As part of the effort to create a standard image for all ASU campuses, several software applications have been made available though the Online Application remote access servers. By hosting the Online Applications through remote servers they can now be accessed from all ASU campuses and even from home.

• LOG IN - Log into the Online Application remote server using your ASUrite username and password.
• CLIENT INSTALL - A remote access client needs to be installed on the computer you use to access the Online Applications if it is not a university common image system. The link to install the client is on the login page.
• SAVING FILES
  • USB DRIVES - If you want to save files created or edited in Online Applications to an external drive, such as a USB or thumb drive, you must connect that drive before launching the Online Application.
  • AFS SPACE - You may easily save information created and edited in Online Applications to your AFS space via the file menu.
• LAUNCHING - It will take a bit longer to connect through the remote servers. Please be patient, repeated clicks will cause further delay, as the server will try to open multiple application windows.
• PROBLEM REPORTING - Any issues with Online Applications should be reported immediately to Classroom Support at classroom.support@asu.edu.

Other Changes

• Instructors at all campuses now have access to printing at no charge in print capable classrooms at the instructor workstation.
• Software previously found on the Linux build at Polytechnic campus may now be found either on Windows and Mac computers or through Online Applications.

Software installed on the computers in computing labs and classrooms at each of ASU's 4 campuses is listed below. Software that have their version #'s in bold numbers or letters have been updated from a previous install.
Applications not installed on the local image are installed on our Online Applications environment and are accessed by clicking on the "Online Applications" shortcut on the desktop or by visiting https://myapps.asu.edu. To learn more about My Apps, please read our Help Center Article, here.
Additional requests to add departmental purchased software can be submitted by using the form at: http://help.asu.edu/software_request_form.
Faculty and staff are invited and highly encouraged to provide feedback. Through customer feedback, improvements will be made to the overall design, ensuring that it meets the needs of the university community.
